The introduction of biosimilars in the United States may help expand access to high-quality treatment options for clinicians and patients as well as potentially reduce costs to families, caregivers, payers, and the entire health care system. Using state?of?the?art technology, biosimilars are manufactured using the same high-quality systems and processes as existing biological medicines. Showing your support for these therapies is important to realize their full potential and impact.
Why is this initiative important? Put simply, patients and providers need access to affordable and high-quality medicines. Some of the most burdensome diseases impacting people in the U.S., such as cancer, anemia, inflammatory bowel diseases, multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, and Crohn’s, may best be treated with biological medicines. For the first time in the United States, biosimilars are poised to help provide health care providers and patients with more treatment options and may contribute to greater access and lower costs. The first biologic has already been approved and more than 50 more are in the pipeline.
The Biosimilars Forum is leading the effort to prepare U.S. physicians, patients, policymakers, advocates, and others for the introduction of biosimilars into the health care system. But we need your help to do this. What questions or concerns regarding biosimilars do you and your members have? What do you see as potential barriers or issues that might prevent or restrict usage? These questions and their answers are important to understanding the current biosimilar landscape and, ultimately, driving confidence and adoption of these new therapeutics. To ensure that our health care system fully realizes the potential of biosimilars, we need your help to educate everyone involved in their regulation and use.
